You'll notice that the titles of the sections of
The Muse all start with the letter
M.
It would be easy to say,
well, I picked "M" because that's the first letter of the "Muse."
It would be easy but it would be too simplistic. We writers love stuff like metaphors and onomatopoeia and alliteration. But I especially love the hidden meanings of things.
It just so happens that
M is one of the most magical letters in the alphabet.
It stands for all the things that define and speak to literature, its creation and our enjoyment of it. It stands for myth, magic and mystery. For metaphors and
metaphormosis. For music and motion, musings and meditation. For milestones, manuscripts, the making of. For the mathematics of memory. For meta-everything.
It's the one consonant you can sing, hum or meditate with. Try it...
mm-mmm.
It's maternal. Think of how many languages share a similar word for "mama."
M nourishes, nurtures, warms the heart and soul.
Turn it upside down or reflect it in water, and
M becomes
W, the letter of words, writers, and writing. Of works and of worlds. Of things wondrous and weird. And of those five pillars we're all taught to build our arguments on: who, what, when, where, and why.
Boy, I sure do have a lot of time on my hands, don't I. Being a Mom and a Writer, actually I don't. But you don't need a lot of time to notice the deep beauty of things. It's everywhere. If you just open your heart to it, entire new worlds blossom in front of your eyes.
In the final installment of
The Muse Welcome Package, you'll discover the archetypal current that runs through all of my work.
