In 1999, I flew to Malta to interview the crew of "Gladiator" for The Hollywood Reporter. They let me walk around the set and take a few photos—but none of Russell Crowe of course.
But Malta itself would prove to be much more captivating than the Hollywood film being shot on this tiny island.
